Alt Path — Privacy Policy

Alt Path (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a decision-practice game. This page explains what data we collect, why, and your choices.

What we collect

• Account basics from Google Sign-In: your email, display name, and profile photo URL.
• Gameplay: scenarios you complete, options chosen, skips, favourites, streaks, XP, and level.
• Personality: your Big Five (OCEAN) quiz responses and the derived aura/persona.
• Optional contact: a phone number if you choose to add one (used only to help friends find you).
• Device: a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can send streak / challenge notifications.
• Crash diagnostics: when the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics records the device model, OS version, app version, and stack trace so we can fix the issue. No personal-content fields (your decisions, OCEAN responses, names) are included in crash reports.

How we use it

• To run gameplay (show scenarios suited to your level, region, and preferred categories).
• To compute your XP, streak, leaderboard rank, and Big Five aura.
• To deliver friend requests and Path Match challenges between users.
• To send opt-in push notifications about streaks and friend activity.

Where it lives

Data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore inside our Firebase project (region: US Central). Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication. We do not sell personal data to third parties.

Third parties

• Google / Firebase — authentication, database, push notifications, basic analytics, and Crashlytics for crash diagnostics.
• Gmail SMTP — used only for transactional emails to invited friends and admin OTP.

Your choices

• Delete account: open the You tab → Settings → Delete account inside the app. This removes your user record, progress, decisions, OCEAN responses, favourites, challenges, compass packs, friend connections, and your Google sign-in grant. Most of this is removed within a few minutes; downstream caches and backups may take up to 30 days to fully clear. Some fully-anonymous aggregates (e.g., per-scenario community-response counts) are not tied to your identity and are retained.
• Sign out: clears local cache and ends the session without deleting your data.
• Notifications: toggle from your device's app settings.
• Phone / friend search: phone is optional; clearing it stops friend lookup by phone.

Children

Alt Path is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has signed up, contact us and we will delete the account.

Texas users — App Store Accountability Act (SB 2420)

For users in Texas only, Alt Path is restricted to users aged 18 and over in line with the Texas App Store Accountability Act (SB 2420). The Google Play Store verifies the account holder's age before installation in Texas and blocks under-18 users from installing the app. We rely on the age signals the Play Store provides at install time; we do not collect, store, or share independent age information beyond what the Play Store provides. This Texas-only restriction does not affect users in any other U.S. state or country, where the global 13 and over minimum applies as described above.

Updates to this policy

We may revise this policy as Alt Path evolves (new features, new providers, new legal requirements). When we do, we update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes are also surfaced inside the app on the next launch. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the revised policy; if you don't, you can sign out or delete your account using the options described above.
